What is an economic network relative to AGLOCO?

AGLOCO is the Internet's first economic network. This is what AGLOCO has to say about it:

Today’s hottest Internet businesses are all about the power of social networks. Companies like MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube have become worth billions because businesses have realized that these social networks are generating huge advertising and marketing opportunities. As these social networks grow, the economic potential for its owners – and the advertisers who target the site’s users – is remarkable.

At AGLOCO, we asked a simple question: The users created the community, where’s their share of the profit?

It was from this question that AGLOCO set out to create the Internet’s first Economic Network, harnessing the power of Internet-based social networks to directly benefit the Members who help to create the community.

Becoming a member of AGLOCO is as simple as completing a brief sign-up page (name, age, location and email address.). Once you’re a Member, you will be asked to then download the Viewbar™ software. (Note: the Viewbar™ software is currently unavailable, as it is in closed testing. It will be ready for public download in a few weeks, and members will be notified when it is available.)

Why does AGLOCO use a referral system?

I saw this on the AGLOCO company blog and thought others would be interested in it:

The most valuable part of AGLOCO is its Members. By referring others to AGLOCO, you provide them with value and for that, AGLOCO thinks you should get some of that value you provide.

It makes sense. Think about YouTube. The first, most active users were on the site when the software was buggy and there were few videos available, but their Membership (and referrals to others) is what made the site a success. When it was sold for $1.65 billion, how much of that did these first users see? Nothing. With the AGLOCO referral system, Members get more for building the network.

Can I find out the names of my AGLOCO direct referrals?

The answer is NO. The reason is that AGLOCO’s privacy policy does not allow giving any personal data to an unauthorized third party at any time. Although I would like to see a list of both the direct referrals and the extended referrals, I believe it is the right thing for AGLOCO to do. This strict privacy policy will help members trust AGLOCO.

How does AGLOCO make money?

AGLOCO makes money in several ways:

  • Search - When you use the Viewbar to do an Internet search, AGLOCO earns money from the search engine providers.

  • Advertising - The Viewbar displays ads that are targeted based upon the web sites you visit. When you click on an ad and make a purchase, AGLOCO receives a referral fee. (Individual members do not receive compensation for clicking on ads in the Viewbar.)

  • Transaction commissions - Many major retailers pay commissions when you refer customers who make a purchase. AGLOCO collects that commission and passes it on to its members.

  • Software distribution - Numerous software companies pay web sites to encourage the download of new software releases, such as Adobe’s Flash and Acrobat Reader software, and trial versions of new programs. AGLOCO members not only get access to the latest and coolest software, they get paid for it.

  • Service distribution - Many online service providers will look to the AGLOCO community as a source of new and active users for their services. (For example, eBay, Skype, and PayPal, all pay fees to people who help them recruit new active users to their services.)

  • Product distribution - When Members agree to use a product, such as cell phones, high-tech gadgets, office supplies, new credit cards, or financial services, AGLOCO can collect referral fees. Some companies even offer special rebate and cash-back programs.

What does being a founder of AGLOCO mean to you?

I read this on the Company Blog and thought it was interesting and worth sharing:

"Welcome to both the trials and the excitement of being a founder. Because of our design as an entrepreneurial company, we have decided to allow people to help us build the network before we launch the company. Essentially, as a Prelaunch Member, you are taking part in what a founder does: working to build the network.

I was flipping through some Member websites yesterday and found one that has a good quote from our “History” page:

YouTube was acquired for $1.65 billion by Google in October 2006. The story of how three guys made hundreds of millions of dollars in one year is a great tale of entrepreneurial success. But what happened to the first users who posted their videos on the site and told their friends to do the same? We don’t hear about them, because they did not get anything (other than free video hosting). Wasn’t it really these users that helped turn YouTube into a multi-billion dollar company? Sure the site is great and the founders deserve all the credit they get, but it is the users who ultimately made it valuable. There are plenty of video sites, and if it wasn’t YouTube, another site could have filled the space, become a household name and been acquired for an amazing price.

We are not trying to pick on YouTube (which we happen to love using). How about the early users of Skype? What about those who first downloaded the software, made calls to their friends in different countries and told their parents to use it as well? They did not see a penny of the $2.6 billion that eBay paid for the company in September 2005. And MySpace? How about the millions of members there? How did they do when News Corp. bought the company for almost $600 million? After all, it was the members that Rupert Murdoch was after when he purchased the site.

As a founder, you deal with all the bugs, the incomplete suite of functionality, and the burden of promoting a product that has not yet been released, but with AGLOCO you will also achieve a much greater share of the rewards. And we’re counting on you to make the constructive comments you’re making so that the management team can improve the company and give Members what they want once the product has launched. Those who continue to make the effort will find themselves rewarded when AGLOCO becomes successful."

Can I make affiliate revenue through AGLOCO?

I was just looking at the AGLOCO company blog this morning, and they were talking about making affiliate income. I already do this with Amazon, and it took me quite a while to set up on my blogs and web sites. It is much easier on AGLOCO. All you need is to download the Viewbar (when it is available). That is all you do!

Here are some words directly from the company blog about this:

I recognize that during the current pre-launch phase we spend extra time on the referral system and the building of the network, so I want to address a part of “what’s in it for regular Members”, specifically in talking about the economic benefit of collecting sales commissions (or affiliate revenue). Let me explain:

Every year, billions of dollars are spent on online shopping, whether for books, electronics, cars, airline tickets, or just about anything else. Many online retailers such as Amazon, Orbitz, and CarsDirect have programs that pay for attracting customers to their online store (basically, to get you to purchase on their site and not that of a competitor). AGLOCO Members will be able to take advantage of these programs simply by having the Viewbar active while they are shopping.

The AGLOCO Viewbar software will be capable of sensing when you are making the type of purchase for which AGLOCO has a revenue sharing program (and by potentially directing you to that partner if you are not already on their site). If you make a purchase, the Viewbar will collect the commission from that purchase. Initially, this revenue may be added to the general AGLOCO revenue pool for expenses and Member distribution, but eventually a sizeable percentage for that revenue will go directly into the Member’s account. Thus, the more a Member buys, the more money will be put into his or her account in addition to regular AGLOCO income. Without the Viewbar, that commission would simply not be paid, or might go to someone else.

What does active surfing mean relative to AGLOCO?

Can I just keep a web site up on my computer for five hours a month and make money? NO.

You have to actively surf on the internet to earn cash for your online usage. If you use a software piracy device that constantly clicks through websites, AGLOCO's anti-hacking instruments will detect and - after investigation - disconnect your account.

You have to be an active online Member to get the benefit of your referrals' surfing. If you surf only 50% of the maximum payable hours a month and your referrals each surf 100%, you will be credited with only 50% of the payable surfing time for each referral.

Can I refer people to AGLOCO through message boards?

It depends. Each type of posting and individual host has its own regulations. Review the guidelines set by the posting area to ensure that you are adhering to all of their guidelines. Although some postings may not be in violation of AGLOCO’s specific anti-spam policies, breaking someone else’s rules will get you in trouble, so be informed.

When posting on a message board or Usenet newsgroup, make sure you are posting on topic, and not posting to too many boards or too frequently. One posting about AGLOCO might draw referrals, but multiple postings become a nuisance. Make sure to post your messages responsibly.

There are many message boards where messages about AGLOCO are appropriate, and many where they aren’t, so use good judgment. Keep your content honest and on point. Misleading your potential referrals is not only a violation of the AGLOCO membership agreement, but also a blow to the integrity of the company.

What is the difference between an AGLOCO direct referral and an extended referral?

This is what AGLOCO has to say about referrals:

AGLOCO pays you an hourly rate when the friends and family who you recruit use the web while using the Viewbar (they're called "direct referrals"), and for people your referrals recruit ('extended referrals'). Extended referrals continue for four levels past your original referral, and there is no limit to the number of referrals you can accumulate.

Can I refer people to AGLOCO through my blogs and websites?

You sure can. It is a great way to recruit new members! I have a link to AGLOCO from all my blogs and web sites.

AGLOCO says this about trying to recruit new members:

If you have your own Blog or Website, it’s a perfect place to advertise your AGLOCO membership and to encourage your readers to sign up. The more you discuss AGLOCO on your blog, the more your blog will be indexed by search engines and the more visitors you may receive. Please note, however, that posting unsolicited comments to the blogs or websites of other people may be a violation of our anti-spam policy. So please use good judgment when including your AGLOCO referral information in comments on other people’s blogs.

Why did I join AGLOCO?

Well, the main reason I joined is to make money. I am sure that is why most people join. I was laid off from IBM after many years and lost my retirement - all I will get is vested rights. That is definitely not very much money. So, I am looking for ways to make money!

I figure that there is a great potential for earning substantial money from AGLOCO. What do I have to lose? I work on the internet all day with my websites, so I won't be doing anything different. If it works, I will make money. If it doesn't, I won't be out any money! To me this sounds like a win-win situation.

BTW, I sell antiques, collectibles, handmade scarves, and handmade greeting cards made with antique postcards. Check out my web sites: Attic Shoppe, Victorian Cards, and My Vintage Crafts.

I also have a number of blogs that you might be interested in: Recipes from Grandma, Diet to Hawaii, and ABCs of Mesothelioma.
